The Police administration has announced a 14.6 per cent decline in armed robbery cases for the first half of the year.
This, the director of the Criminal Investigations Department, Prosper Ablorh attributed to increase in police patrols across the country.
At a press conference in Accra, the CID boss said a total of 584 cases of armed robberies were recorded between January–June, 2011, as against a total of 684 the previous year.
Averagely, three cases of armed robberies are recorded daily during the period, he noted, adding a total of 191 suspects have been arrested over the same period.
Some of the robberies have been fatal, with victims and suspects alike falling casualties.
“Out of these, 14 lives were lost through robberies. And out of the 14 lives, 10 persons, including one police man were innocent victims, whilst four were armed robbers.
“Fifty robbery victims were injured over the period,” he added.
He expressed regrets over the lynching of armed robbery suspects by the general public. According to him, two suspects were lynched within the same period.
