Zoomlion Ghana Limited, in partnership with the National Hajj Committee, has cleared refuse at the two Hajj villages in Accra and Tamale.
The 16-day exercise saw personnel from the waste company scrub washrooms, desilt drains and clear the surroundings of weeds.

The entire Hajj village was also fumigated to avoid insects and flies posing health danger to the Pilgrims. The company also collected refuse at the Hajj villages daily prior to the departure of the pilgrims.
Speaking to the media at the Accra Hajj Village yesterday, the Municipal Manager of Zoomlion in charge of the La Dadekotopon, Mr Roger Boadu, said the clean-up exercise was meant to create a conducive environment for the Hajj pilgrims.

“We wanted to create a clean environment for all the Hajj Pilgrims in Accra and Tamale. We came here with enough waste equipment to stay and collect all the waste,” he said.
Mr Boadu said Zoomlion Ghana Limited believed that one of the major ways to develop a nation was to pay attention to sanitation issues, adding that “once we are called upon, we will certainly show up to help.”

According to him, the management of the company received a letter from the Hajj Committee to assist them maintain the hajj village for the Pilgrims.
Hajj Board impressed
A member of the Hajj Board in charge of Finance, Alhaji Farouk Hamza, commended the company for maintaining a clean environment in the two Hajj villages.

He said the leadership of the Hajj Board was impressed with the level of work done in the village, adding that without the waste company’s support, it would have been extremely difficult to clean up the two hajj villages.
