The Managing Director for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Anthony Gyampo has stated categorically that his outfit is not responsible for recent frequent power outages.Speaking in a telephone interview on Adom TV’s BADWAM show on Multi TV, Mr. Gyampo expressed concern that the activities of some individuals were hampering efforts by ECG to provide constant supply of electricity to various parts of the country.“For instance, there’s a particular contractor on the Kasoa-Mallam road who is part of those constructing the roads. He keeps tampering with underground cables that serve Mallam, Kasoa and its environs with electricity. Even though our men have alerted him, he won’t stop,” Mr. Gyampo explained, blaming the the unnamed contractor for causing frequent power outages in Kasoa, Mallam and its environs. He also listed the stealing of power cables belonging to the ECG as well as illegal connections carried out by some unscrupulous persons as other factors responsible for the power outages. He, however, conceded that the Volta River Authority (VRA), occasionally faced some challenges which affected ECG’s ability to constantly supply electricity.Mr. Gyampo, thus, called on the public to support the ECG by reporting culprits who indulge in activities that disrupt the constant flow of electricity.
