Residents of Adenta-Ashiye in the Adentan District in Accra besieged the Nima residence of the President, over what they call encroachment on their lands by the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The group led by one Humphrey Ankamah camped at Nana Akufo-Addo's residence on Wednesday morning to present their petition to him.
Speaking to Joy News’ Joseph Ackah-Blay, leader of the aggrieved residents, Mr. Ankamah said for the past three weeks their lands and property is being fenced, thereby denying them access to their homes and other property.
“We quickly rushed to the authorities to find out what was going on and they directed us to the director of CSIR who they said is in charge of the project,"
They said they were told the land belongs to government.
The worried residents say they seem to have fallen victims of having bought land from the wrong people and want the President to set up a neutral committee to look into the issue.
"In the meantime, we want the project halted until the committee comes out with their findings," Mr Ankamah told Joy News.
The group’s petition was handed over to Eric Twum who works closely with the President.
Mr Humphrey Ankamah says they expect a response from the Presidency on Wednesday because they cannot access their property since there is heavy security guarding the ongoing project at their residence.
