Allianz Ghana has introduced an insurance package aimed at reducing risks caused by cybercrime.
The Managing Director of Allianz Ghana, Martin Amoah, said the package was one of its kind in the insurance industry.
“We at Allianz are focused on quality and security in the insurance sector when it comes to cybercrime and that is why we have come up with this new initiative. We hope other insurance companies will follow our lead," he said.
Mr. Amoah was speaking at a seminar on cybercrime in Accra.
The new package, called Allianz Cyber Protect Premium, is an initiative by Allianz Ghana and Midas Insurance Brokers aimed at providing clients with new insurance covers against threats or risks of cyber-attacks.
The Chief Operating Officer of Midas Insurance Brokers, Eric Addo-Mensah, decried the lack of preparedness by the insurance sector on the threat of cybercrime. He urged the insurance sector to come together in the wake of this development.
Participants at the seminar also promised to liaise with government to come up with a special national insurance package on cybercrime.
The threat of cyber-crime is increasing every day as the world economy comes to depend more and more on technology.
The seminar was aimed at bringing technology experts to advise IT managers, head of legal and industry practitioners on how to address the cyber risk and take active steps to identify, assess and manage the risk on an enterprise-wide basis.
The Allianz Group is one of the world's leading insurers and asset managers with more than 86 million retail and corporate customers.
It is also one of the world's largest investors managing over €650 billion on behalf of its insurance customers.
