US-based Ghanaian tennis player Herman Abban has declared his readiness to feature for Ghana in its 2018 Davis Cup commitments.
Herman, who was adjudged the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Player to Watch, is expected to arrive in Ghana early next month to begin justifications for his inclusion into the Golden Rackets.
The former New Mexico Military Academy tennis star in an interview with tennisgh.com via Skype said: “I am coming to play in the national ranking and other qualifiers to justify myself and also to let the officials know that I deserve a call-up into the 2018 Davis Cup team.” He continued “It is the dream of every player to feature for his national team so I am hoping to give a good account of myself to get this opportunity.”
After setting the school record for most singles wins in a season at 30-3 and going 32-3 along with Pawel Jaworski in doubles, Abban will return to the courts to represent the Red Men at the 2017 National College Athletics Association (NCAA) Division III Men’s Tennis Championships in the individual and doubles competition.
Sharing his 3 years of experience in college in the US, Herman said: “College tennis has really transformed me and all my coaches can testify. I’m more disciplined, responsible, and hardworking, above all playing in a team has helped my way of thinking. I believe all of these experiences will help me get a chance to play in the Davis Cup.”
He expressed appreciation to the Abban family in the United States and in Ghana, Coach Brady Lindsley and Mexico Military College Staff all his colleagues who supported him while in college. He also thanked Jackie Stassen, who supported him at college.
