This week President Akufo Addo trended on social media for a while, both in Ghana and in many parts of the world, for boldly declaring his ambition to create a Ghana Beyond Aid.
As he stood beside the French President, Emmanuel Macron, he did not mince words. He spoke about Ghana being economically independent and dependent on others to support her.
The Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on Wednesday gave the country a greater clarity on how the government plan to realize their vision of a Ghana beyond aid. Clearly, the rhetoric is invigorating but what about the reality?
In a Ghana beyond aid where it aims to be a master of its own destiny with a changed attitude towards work where citizens work hard to raise their own resources and to fix their problems, is it still acceptable for five ministers to abandon their duties just to attend a funeral?
Or is it okay for a government to hold as many as three massively expensive thanksgiving services in less than a year; to think that the last one on Thursday was during working hours?
And oh did the President spend several hours at the thanksgiving after he earlier this year criticised public sector workers for spending working hours to pray?
Ghana Connect had Aretha Amma Sarfo-Kantanka, Founder of Global Fusion Productions Inc., a global branding company that connects the world to Africa and Africa to the world. She specializes in fashion, entertainment, art, tourism and Technology.
Also connecting was Dr Kwame Agyeman, an International law lecturer with the Lancaster University.
Ernesto Yeboah, the former Youth Organiser of the Conventions People's Party (CPP) and leading member of Economic Fighter’s League also joined the discussion.
