First Lady Mrs Naadu Mills has categorically denied allegations she received $5million out of the controversial GHS 51 million judgement debts paid to embattled business man Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
Operations Director of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), Ernest Owusu Bempah, made the allegation during a political discussion on an Accra based radio station last week and it was later reported by the Daily Guide newspaper.
Mr Owusu Bempah was arrested and detained by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) but was released on police inquiry bail Friday.
Bempah has been charged with publishing false information with the intent to cause fear and panic.
The First Lady, in a rejoinder issued by her lawyers to editor of the Daily Guide newspaper Friday, demanded for the removal of the story from the publication’s website “all traces of the story in order to prevent further dissemination.”
She described the allegation “as wild, completely baseless and without any shred of truth.”
According to the First Lady, “it is both inconceivable and indeed distasteful for any person to suggest that after so many years of living a simple life of integrity and hard work with her husband, the President of the Republic of Ghana, she would accept a corrupt gift.”
The allegation which was published during a state visit by the First Lady and the President to the United States of America prompted embarrassing questions, the rejoinder said.
“Clearly, the publication was intended to disparage and embarrass her [Naadu Mills] and the President and make them the subject of ridicule and odium.”
