A circuit court at Kumasi jailed an ex-policeman to seven years imprisonment for attempting to withdraw GH¢1,200 with a cheque with a forged signature of Mr. Mahama Hamidu, Prempeh II Street Branch Manager of the Agricultural Development Bank in Kumasi.
James Boakye, who pleaded guilty to the charge had already withdrawn GH¢1,000 from the accounts of the Manager at the Bank through a similar deal.
Police Chief Inspector A.K. Fandoh told the court presided over by Madam Wilhemina Hammond that on August 25 this year, Boakye went to the Bank to withdraw GH¢1,000 with a cheque with a forged signature of the Bank Manager.
Prosecution said Boakye indicated during an interrogation that he found the first cheque on the floor of the bank hall.
Chief Inspector Fandoh said three days later, the accused was again at the Bank to withdraw GH¢1,200 through a similar deal but a Bank official detected the deal and he was arrested.
