President Kufuor has announced a critical response to the floods that have affected the Upper East and Northern region. He said a task force has been set up to provide rapid assistance to those in need.“Many thousand persons have been dislocated and homes and farms washed away. I have appointed a tax force inducing the high command of high military to work out relief measures for the short and long term emergency relief items are being rushed to the affected areas. The government and the nation stand by the affected victims”, he said.Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Sandema in the Builsa district of the Upper East region has dismissed as false allegations by the MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga that relief items gathered for displaced people in the region are being distributed selectively.Residents in Sandema, Garu Timpani and other areas were displaced a week ago from their homes because of floods. Government is expected to spend some ten billion cedis on relief for the people and much more on reconstruction in the region.Speaking on Joy Fm’s news analysis program, News file, Mahama Ayariga alleged that the relief items for more than a thousand displaced people are in the custody of individuals and are being distributed selectively. He also said that the Sandema DCE, Thomas Alsonse also instigated the closure of the NADMO office in the region. But Mr. Alonse says the allegations are false.
