The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has summoned utility providers over their quality of service to consumers. The commission called a retreat with the utility providers in an attempt to address the concerns of consumers at a time of erratic power supply with some major blackouts across the country. The retreat, which is underway at Winneba in the Central Region, involves the Volta River Authority (VRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Ghana Water company.Joy FM’s Sammy Darko, reporting from the venue, said representatives of the VRA and GRIDCO failed to show up at the meeting. He said the commission identified poor communication with consumers as the major problem besetting the activities of the organisations.ECG, while accepting failure on their part to communicate well with consumers, said most of the problems they get blamed for are beyond them but pledged to improve.
