Workers in Ghana are today joining their counterparts throughout the world to celebrate May Day which is being organised by the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC).Because of a decision to rotate the celebration of May Day in the regional capitals, this year’s national celebration, would take place in Sunyani, capital of the Brong-Ahafo Region.The celebration has been dubbed “Elections 2012: The Role of Workers in Securing Peaceful and Fair Election”.Mr Kwaku Darko Aferi, Head of Public Affairs, in an interview with GNA, said both a national committee and local committee had been established to organise this year’s May Day celebrations, comprising representatives of all the unions.He said executives of the various District Councils of Labour would be expected to be present at the national parade while Greater Accra Region, would organise a regional parade for its workers in Tema.Mr Aferi said companies that do not have branches in the Brong-Ahafo Region, are expected to send their representatives to participate in the parade.He named some activities that had preceded the May Day celebration to include a symposium, health walk, May Day Quiz and a Radio Discussion.
