Dr Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services has commended the people of Nkoranza district in Brong Ahafo for their foresight in embracing the National Health Insurance scheme.
Inaugurating the Ghana Chapter of the International Association of Humanitarian Medicine, an Italian medical NGO, Dr Ibrahim said the people of the area must be commended by government for their enthusiasm in the scheme.
The Italian NGO has adopted the Nkoranza Health Centre and its helping to address maternal and infant mortality in the communities.
Dr Ibrahim commended the NGO for showing concern towards the country's development and gave the assurance that the Ghana Health Service would continue to collaborate with it to promote the health needs of the people.
He disclosed that the Regional Directorate of Health Services would launch a programme to ensure that health facilities in the region focus on eliminating maternal deaths by the year 2015.
The Regional Director urged nurses to do their best and offer selfless services to the people.
Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, advised the people of Nkoranza to be honest in their dealings with the NGO to maintain the trust and confidence it had reposed in them.
A representative of the NGO, Professor Guiseppe Masellis, said the project in Nkoranza would serve as a research centre for sub-Saharan Africa and that medical officers at the centre would transfer cases beyond their competence to Italy for the necessary attention.Source: GNA
