The Winneba Police Command has banned the movement of motorbikes and bicycles without light during the night in Winneba township with immediate effect.
ASP Jordan Quaye, Winneba District Police Commander, in a statement to the press said that anybody found on motor and bicycles without light during the night in the town would be arrersted and prosecuted.
He said any person riding motorcycles bicycles without helmet would also be arrest and made to face the law.
Drivers or riders found driving or riding unresgistered vehicles and motorcycles would have themselves to blame, he said.
ASP Quaye said these were measures the police had taken to minimise accidents, reduce crime and ensure peace and tranquility in Winneba.
He therefore appealed to the people to cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain law and order in the district by giving out information about criminals, including wee smokers to the police.
Meanwhile the police have embarked on an exercise to detain vehicles which had not been authorised to use sirens to ensure discipline on roads in the district.
ASP Quaye said it is only the presidential convoy, police, ambulance services and the Fire Service that are permitted by law to use sirens.
