The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alban Bagbin says a police video documentary on national television on the supposed serial killing of women is erroneous and deceptive.The documentary broadcast on state television details how convict, Charles Quansah, who is appealing his conviction, allegedly committed the murders and killings and the police’s role in his apprehension and prosecution.But the Minority Leader says the facts of the case have been twisted for propaganda purposes. Alban Bagbin told Joy News that Charles Quansah was convicted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend in Kumasi in 1996, and not for the murders of the 30 or more women killed under mysterious circumstances in the run-up to the 2000 elections.The outgoing Director of Criminal Investigations Department, David Asante Apeatu who spearheaded the production of the documentary, however explained that the documentary was prepared to educate the public on safety and security issues and not for any ulterior motive. He also told Joy News he was not aware of a pending appeal by Quansah against his conviction.Quansah counsel had threatened he might seek legal redress, including pressing for contempt charges against the police and some media houses for prejudicing his client’s case.
