The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has directed the police investigative bureau to probe alleged police brutalities of some civilians including a Multimedia journalist Latif Iddrisu.
David Asante Apeatu charged the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) Bureau to probe allegations made by civilians at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters last week.
His directive comes a day after the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) demanded a probe into the alleged brutality of Mr Iddrisu by some police officers.
The National Organizer of the party, Kofi Adams, said he thought it was a one-off incident but he said after listening to the journalist, he gathered it was “a well-planned, calculated and orchestrated.”
He said, “to pull him [Mr Iddrisu] further into their yard and use what should have served as a protection for people to molest him is uncalled for.”
Mr Adams was speaking at the Accra residence of the reporter on Monday when the NDC delegation paid him a visit.

Whilst reporting on the disturbances at the CID following the arrest of the NDC Deputy General Secretary last Tuesday, some police personnel allegedly pounced on Mr Iddrisu.
To help his report, the reporter had gone to ask the police officers the name of the water cannons and tools being used to keep the NDC supporters under control but the officer refused to answer.
Instead, he was hit from behind by the officer kicked and assaulted by scores of officers with the butt of their guns.
Mr Adams said the behaviour of the police officer was uncalled for and called on authorities to step up investigations into the incident.
Also commenting on the incident during the visit, former Attorney General, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, expressed the party’s commitment to support all Ghanaians who were brutalised as a result of their involvement in seeking justice for Mr Anyidoho.
