A court has granted bail to a student who is standing trial for possessing illegal drug to enable him to write his final examinations.
Seth Kofi Arko, final-year student of Faith Assemblies of God Secondary School at Tafo Pankrono, near Kumasi, was released on GH¢2000 bail with three sureties to be justified by the Mamponten Magistrate Court.
Arko’s plea was not taken when he appeared before the court last Wednesday after being held in police custody overnight following his arrest on September 17 at Asenua in Kumasi.
Prosecuting, Sergeant D.A. Adjei told the court presided over by Mrs Aliata Saeed that the substance was being taken to the Police Forensic Laboratory for testing.
He said Arko and a friend were spotted in a workshop at Asenua by the owner Nana Kofi Owusu.
Nana Owusu was going round the workshop to ensure that nothing was amiss following persistent thefts there.
On seeing him, the two took to their heels but he pursued them and arrested Arko. The other person escaped.
On being searched, a black polythene bag containing some substance was found on him and he was handed over to the Mamponten Police.
