Ben Mensah, District Chief Executive for Agona has appealed to people in the district to desist from littering their surroundings indiscriminately to ensure a clean environment.
He said the district assembly would continue to work hard to maintain the district as the neatest in the Central Region.
The Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Environment and Regional Co-ordinating Council last year adjudged the district the cleanest in the region.
Mr Mensah said this when he unveiled four billboards with the inscriptions "We are the neatest district in the region" donated by the Ministry and Regional Co-ordinating Council on Friday at Agona Swedru.
He said the award did not come on silver platter but was won through the efforts of the public.
Mr Mensah launched a monthly clean up exercise and that the first exercise would start at Agona Nyakrom.
Mr Frank Asirifi, District Environmental Health Officer, said all sanitation laws and byelaws of the assembly would be enforced.
He said the police were investigating a case in which three of his staff were assaulted by some youth in when they attempted to catch a stray animal at the Agona Swedru Old Zongo area.
Nana Okrubi Aseidu Odiowusiw Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene and Acting President of Nyakrom Traditional Area, said it was joy for Agona District to win such an award in the region.
He assured the assembly that the traditional council would assist in ensuring that all laws are applied.
Nana Okrubi Aseidu Odiowusiw Kobina Botwe commended Mr Mensah, the Environmental Health Officer and the assembly for their hard work in maintaining environmental cleanliness.
