The New Punch newspaper reports that the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Prof Stephen Adei has written to the GIMPA Council to award him the position of a Full Professor.
In a publication in the Monday October 1, 2007 issue of the newspaper, the story refers to an application letter to the Council which was written on the letterhead of Prof. Adei.
The report says in the letter, Prof. Adei wrote that he is an Adjunct Professor of the African Leadership and Management Academy (ALMA), adding that being the principal officer of GIMPA, which the Rector is, and the fact that he presides over assessments and recommendations for professorship, he meets the academic requirements of a professor for the institute, and therefore, he should be appointed to the position.
The letter dated September 4, 2007 was addressed to the Deputy Rector and Dean of Academic Affairs.
Professor Adei's application avers that in considering someone for the appointment of a professor four (4) categories or categories arc considered for full professorship at GIMPA viz:
i. Service 25 points.
ii. Teaching & Supervision - 35 points.
iii. Being in Senior position up to 5 years - 45 points.
iv. Research and publication - 45 points.
He thus drew the attention of the Deputy Rector, that a full professor is expected to score a total of 75 points.
According to him his application is supported by the fact that he has rendered meritorious service for the country culminating in his recognition by the State which has awarded him the Companion of the Order of the Volta Medal.
He contended that the state honour is the second highest recognition for his work at GIMPA and contribution to the nation, besides the transformation of GIMPA under his leadership.
He also cites his marriage life saying he has been married to his wife for 32 years and has published more than 10 books on the subject.
On education, he said, he spends a lot of time talking to young people in schools each year and out of limited resources, he and the wife have founded the first ever not- for-profit Senior Secondary School - The Ghana Christian International High School - in which hundreds of young people arc being trained "For God, Family and Country.
Among others, he asserted that following his book 'Twelve Keys to Financial Success" he had spoken to millions of Ghanaians on TV, through radio and face to face and assisted thousands of people in and outside Ghana to save and invest out of poverty at the lower end and to achieve financial independence at the other.
He also cited the fact that in an age when many people, particularly, the youth, lack guidance and hope, he provides guidance to several thousands, which he believes, have brought tremendous assistance to many.
"I personally designed the Masters in Business programmes which in seven years, have propelled GIMPA to be the only Ghanaian School to qualify for membership of the prestigious African Association of Business Schools."
Meanwhile, Joy News have learned that while the GIMPA Council is meeting this morning, October 1, 2007 to consider the letter, the Council has written to him to stop holding himself as a professor.
