Asante Kotoko deputy coach Akakpo Patron has hailed the performance of his players after they earned a 2-0 win over Elmina Sharks at Baba Yara Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors moved to within three points of the top after goals from Emmanuel Gyamfi and Burkinabe forward Songne Yacouba helped secure full spoils on Wednesday.
The victory ended Elmina Sharks ten games unbeaten run in the league.
Akakpo told reporters the display by players especially new recruits - Samuel Frimpong, Richard Senanmu, and Agyeman Badu - merited the win.
"It was a good performance from the players especially the new ones that we added to the team a couple of days ago. The players showed the desire to win for the supporters.'’
"We played against a team in a good moment of form since they had gone ten games without a single defeat ahead of visiting us.
“I believe we will improve gradually but what everybody is expecting from the team is consistency.”
Kotoko will travel to face Liberty before hosting Aduana Stars in their final game of the first round. Akakpo is targeting victory in the two games as they remain upbeat of winning the league title this season.
"If we're able to win our two games before the first round of the season ends, it will bring back the belief that we can achieve something in the second round," he added.
