An argument between an 18-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy over a mobile phone ended tragically, when the girl allegedly stabbed the boy to death at Apowa, near Kwesiminstsim in Takoradi.
The teenager, identified as Rossetta Quarshie, has been arrested by the police pending investigations into the matter.
Quarshie is said to have engaged Kofi Bermah, the deceased, in an argument over her mobile phone.
During the argument, she was said to have stabbed Bermah in the chest with a knife used by her to peel oranges she sold by the roadside.
The body of the deceased had been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Briefing graphic.com.gh about the incident, the Kwesimintsim District Police Commander, Supt. Ayamga Y. Akologo, said Quarshie was said to be selling oranges on Saturday night by the roadside at Apowa, near Kwesimintsim, when the deceased visited her.
He said the suspect said she placed her mobile phone on the table on which the oranges were displayed for sale.
Supt Akologo said upon reaching the sales point of the suspect and as if he wanted to buy some of the oranges, the deceased picked Quarshie's phone and went away.
Supt. Akologo said the deceased then returned to the sales point with the phone hours later and handed it to Quarshie.
He said not quite long after, the two were seen engaged in a serious argument after the deceased had picked one of the girl’s knives to peel an orange.
Quarshie, who was holding one of the knives, was said to have stabbed the boy who then fell down with blood all around his body.
On lookers then rushed the victim to the hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect, according to Supt Akologo, was later arrested and placed in police custody pending investigations into the matter.
