An educationist has appealed to board of governors of senior high schools to ensure that levies submitted to them by school managers for consideration were within the approved limits. Mr Festus Boadi-Suadwa, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said the GES was keen to ensure that parents and guardians were not over burdened with high fees and other levies. He was speaking at the inauguration of the reconstituted Board of Governors of the Ahwiren Catholic Secondary Technical School in the Amansie East District of the Ashanti Region. Mr Boadi-Suadwa said school boards were required to be particularly concerned with the promotion of conditions that were conducive to effective teaching and learning. He commended the board of the school for instituting the Maxwell Kwadwo Owusu Endowment Fund in honour of the late Maxwell Owusu, the first board chairman of the school, to support needy but brilliant students from the Ahwiren community and its environs. He urged the board to support the headmaster to stamp out indiscipline. Reverend Philip Ninfaasie Yob, Headmaster of the School, mentioned lack of classroom blocks, library, science laboratory and staff accommodation as some of the problems facing the school. He commended the Maxwell Owusu family for their support to the school and expressed the hope that the new board would rise up to the challenges and propel the school to achieve higher academic success.
