Two brothers in the Eastern Region have introduced a novel method of generating electricity from cassava.
James Ansah and Kwesi Ansah’s “JK2 table power” innovation is built from ordinary items from their backyard like plastic materials, wood and copper wires.
Cassava is a popular West African root crop which people use for various starch-based meals.
Because farmers produce more cassava than they can consume, a lot of the root crop goes to waste, however, with the innovation by James and Kwesi, waste can be turned into power to charge phones or power radio at least.
James and Kwesi want support from government or the private sector in order to convert most of Ghana's cassava waste into cheap electricity supply for schools, hospitals and villages.
