A long-serving former Director of the Serious Fraud Office now the Economic and Organized Crimes Office is calling for an independent prosecutor to see to a successful prosecution of public servants and political office holders.
Theophilus Cudjoe said, that will curb the nagging failure by governments to prosecute functionaries indicted by state investigative bodies.
He was speaking to Joy News’ Sammy Darko a day after he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions on the controversial judgement debt payment to Construction Pioneers.
Theophilus Cudjoe made damning revelations at the hearing and chided the Attorney General’s office for failing to prosecute the many indictable offences made against political and public officers.
He said in his tenure as SFO boss, spanning the two administrations, NDC and NPP, government officials under both administrations were deemed to have misappropriated funds.
He told Sammy Darko there appeared to be some lack of political will to prosecute those functionaries even in the face of overwhelming evidence against them.
Theophilus Cudjoe insisted the way forward is to appoint an independent prosecutor who will expeditiously prosecute cases without regard to political colour.
