The Akim Oda Magistrates’ Court in the Birim Central Municipality has remanded in police custody, Prophetess Adwoa Ataa Acheampong and Evangelist Debora Acheampong who fiercely exchanged blows, due to a misunderstanding between them at Akim Asuoso.
The pleas of Prophetess Ataa, 52, and Evangelist Acheampong, 31, both siblings were not taken by the court, presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor. They would reappear on August 31.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang stated that the two accused persons are siblings who live at Akim Asuoso, but in separate houses.
She said on July 13, 2012 Prophetess Ataa reported a stealing and threat of death case against their elder brother, Opanin Kwasi Anyanor to the Akim Akroso police and that on July 27, the police proceeded to Opanin Anyanor’s house to effect his arrest at a time he had gone to farm.
According to the prosecutor, the police met Evangelist Acheampong, who lives with Opanin Anyanor and assured the police that she would do everything possible to help arrest him on his return from the farm.
She said the following morning, Prophetess Ataa informed the police that his brother was on the run and that her sister was also preparing to abscond, and so the police proceeded to Asuoso, but met Evangelist Acheampong washing her cloths.
The police told Prophetess Ataa to let the police handle the matter and asked her to go back to her house.
She said immediately the police left the house, a tense misunderstanding ensued between them which degenerated into a fierce fight.
She stated that the two later reported themselves with marks on their bodies to the police who issued them medical forms to attend hospital, after which both of them were arrested.
