The Right Reverend Dr. Livingstone Buama, Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church has assured Christians that they were capable of anything if only they have faith in God."Nothing is too difficult to do or overwhelming to bear, if we have faith, a little faith", he said in a sermon to mark the centenary celebration of the Peki-Wudome branch of the Church on Sunday. It was under the theme, "The impact of Christianity on Peki-Wudome - The way forward".A GH¢25,000 (250 million cedis) new chapel named after one Reverend Carl Freyburger, of the North German Mission of the Evangelical North Missionary Society of Bremen was dedicated as part of the celebrations.Rev Freyburger in 1897 purchased the land belonging to the Peki-Wudome branch of the E.P. Church on behalf of the Evangelical North Missionary Society of Bremen, the Church's history indicated. The "least faith that is sincere is good enough to take you through everything", Rt. Rev Dr Buama said.Rt. Rev. Dr Buama said Christians should understand the character of God as a "tremendous and fascinating mystery, he is the holy one who attracts and repels at the same time".Regarding faith, he said, it is difficult to define, but better seen at work, as demonstrated in the encounters such as those between David and Goliath and the Prophet Elias and the priests of Baal."When faith returns the past glory will return, able to turn ashes of disaster into fertile grounds"."But faith is not the same as foolhardiness", he cautioned. He urged the Peki-Wudome congregation to be inspired by the successes of the founding fathers despite the challenges that confronted them."Life is lived forward but understood backwards", he said.Rt. Rev. Dr Buama said, "the past must inform the present and the present must inspire the future".He exhorted the Peki-Wudome community to support efforts of the Church at developing the spiritual and material well being of the citizenry. In an address, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister Mr Joseph Kweku Nayan was hopeful that the celebration would inspire the members of the church to brace themselves for greater challenges. He said the E.P. Church deserved the credit for laying a firm foundation for education in the Peki traditional area.Mr Nayan however, urged the Church to go back into the past and help bring back the moral discipline, which was synonymous with its schools. He said that way; the church would be helping in redirecting the energies and talents of the youth into constructive work.Source: GNA
