Gbagbo’s ally, Justin Kone Katinan, denied bail

The Human Rights Court in Accra has denied the former spokesperson for ousted Ivorian Leader Laurent Gbagbo who is currently in detention in Ghana, bail. Justin Kone Katinan lawyers made an oral application for bail Wednesday but the Court declined the bail request. The court said Mr. Katinan's detention by the Ghanaian authorities was lawful. It advised the former Ivorian Cabinet minister's lawyers to make a formal application for bail, pending extradition process yet to be started by the state. Mr. Katina, a key ally of former Ivoirian President Laurent Gbagbo, was on 24 August arrested by security officials at the behest of the Ivorian government. He has been in detention since. Meanwhile the Ghana Refugee Board says it has not granted the former Ivorian Minister, refugee status. The board says it is now considering a request he made.
