An explosion at the Electricity of Ghana bulk supply point at Ridge Sub-station ‘A’in Kumasi has rendered many parts of the Ashanti Region without electricity.
The explosion which occurred around 9:00 am Friday triggered a fire incident but was quickly put out by fire men.
It caused damaged to the 11KV panel at the intake station where transmitted power from GRIDCO is stored before it is distributed was the cause of black-out which occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Except customers at Konongo and Obuasi, several areas within the Kumasi metropolis in remained without electricity.
Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Region ECG, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo told Joy News the power outage is widespread.
He cannot, say when the electricity will be restored. According to him the cause of the explosion is yet to be known.
Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor who was at the ECG office said technicians are busily opening up panels that receive power from GRIDco for electricity distribution in the region to ascertain the extent of damage.
Meanwhile the Electricity Company of Ghana has appealed to customers in the Ashanti region to exercise restraints as it tries to restore power following a fire outbreak at one of its sub-stations.
