The Eastern Regional Minister Ambassador Victor Smith and a team from the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Highways Authority and Engineers of the Lower Manya District have toured the broken bridge on the main road linking Odumase to Kpong and other parts of the Volta Region.The bridge which was constructed some 30 years ago collapsed on friday 7th September 2012 during a torrential rainfall, disrupting human, trading, and vehicular activities in the area; prompting the Regional Minister to call on the Military and Ghana Highways Authority to help find urgent solution to the situation.The team also inspected the diversion created to temporary curb the situation and bring some relief to commuters who ply the road.The Eastern Regional Minister urged the people to exercise patience, as government will do everything to alleviate the problem in the shortest possible time.Hon Isaac Agbo, DCE for Lower Manya also appealed to the engineers to immediately expand the diversion to make it more motorable.He also dismissed fears by residents, saying the road will be brought back to normalcy to enhance trading and other activities in the area.Captain Emmanuel Asia of the 48 Engineers Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces assured the Regional Minister and his team that the broken bridge will be put to shape within six weeks.Mr David Hammond of the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Highways Authority also pledged the commitment of his outfit to assist the 48 Engineers Regiment to construct the bridge within the scheduled time.
