Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports, has urged the youth to be disciplined and ignore any incitement to violence.
He advised them to refuse to be part of any agenda to disturb the peace and create confusion.
Mr Humado said this in an address read for him at the closing of the 11th national cadet leadership training camp at Tepa, in the Ahafo-Ano North District.
It brought together 1,500 cadets from across the country to learn the skills of first aid administration, field craft, leadership, project work, communication and voice procedure.
“Peace and stability, the role of the cadet corps” was the theme.
Mr Humado said the call for peace in an election year, “in a politically vibrant country such as ours is a call on the youth to consider what Islam, Christianity and indeed traditionalists exhort its followers to pursue.”
He said it was important for them to appreciate that Ghana was the only country they have and could not afford to destroy it through political intolerance and social deviant activities like drug abuse, robbery and moral turpitude.
He spoke of the determination of his ministry to create opportunities and avenues through skills training at its leadership training institutions and the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to help the youth to get jobs and have better adult life.
Touching on the camp, Mr Humado said, the exposure of the participants to field craft such as fire fighting and jungle survival would go a long way to prevent disasters.
He praised the cadets for their patriotism and spirit of voluntarism.
Ms Victoria Achiaa, the District Director of Education, urged them to uphold the values of hard work, comportment and discipline to become good examples to the rest of the society.
She thanked the cadets for carrying out painting works on the Tepa Senior High School (SHS) gate, dining hall and kitchen and the Manfo Roman Catholic Basic School from its own resources.
Mr Nicholas Nii Tettey-Amarteifio, National Coordinator of the Cadets, put the population of the cadets nationwide at 23,000 and expressed appreciation to the Youth and Sports Ministry for its support.
Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem, Omanhene of Tepa, advised them to be law abiding and put into practice the good things they have learnt from the camping.
