Legal Practitioner, Nene Amegatcher has been elected as the new President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) on Thursday.In a keenly contested election at the association’s congress, Mr. Amegatcher beat his closest rival Philipa Dennis to win the Presidency.He had 285 of the votes compared to 106 for Madam Dennis.Nene Amegatcher will take over from Mr. Frank W.K. BeechamThe GBA’s new Vice President will be Peter Zwennes who had 345 votes to beat Cab Addae who got 47 votesThe well-attended six-day conference was on the theme: “The Role of the Legal Profession in the Electoral Process.”Nene Amegatcher had pledged to see to the welfare of members and lift the image of the profession by enforcing GBA Code of Ethics and its constitution which enjoy high professional standards and discipline.A good number of big shots like Joe Ghartey, Osei Kwame Prempeh and a host of others who left the conference after the opening ceremony were compelled by the keenly nature of the contest to go back in their numbers to cast their votes.Most of the bigwigs were suspected to have backed the ambition of Nene who promised a robust image rebuilding for the noble profession.
