The leadership of the Assemblies of God in Koforidua have explained why the church had to call in the police during a wedding ceremony at the Church premises last Saturday.Speaking at a press conference in Koforidua on Wednesday, the Eastern Regional Superintendent Minister of the Church, Rev. Alex Ofori Amankwa said there was a wedding ceremony on that day.He said before the ceremony, which was held at the Calvary Assembly Church auditorium between one Dennis Ofosu Sarpong and Miss Joyce Antwi, he announced that the church would not allow persons who had not been engaged by the couple to take snapshots close to the altar.Rev. Amankwaa said immediately he ended his statement, a group of friends of the groom sitting at the back seat in the church auditorium responded that they would not comply with the directives. He said when the ceremony started one of the friends of the groom who was making noise came in front of the altar to use his mobile phone to take pictures of the bride and the bride groom.Rev. Amankwaa said he ordered the Deacons of the church to ensure that discipline prevailed at the church auditorium and as the Deacons escorted the young men who were trying to disrupt the church service, a group attempted to re-enter the church auditorium and so the leadership of the church called in the police to maintain order.Rev. Amankwaa said when the police arrived the group attacked them forcing the police to give two warning shots to disperse them.He said later the police arrested three of the members of the group who attempted to cause confusion at the wedding ceremony.
