The management of Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) said they intend developing the area around the "Gao Shrine" which is the worshiping grove of the traditionalists of Kpone. The Managing Director of VALCO, Mr Emmanuel Lartey, said sometime ago the management of VALCO held discussions on the issue with the Chief of Kpone, Nii Tetteh Otu II but he was yet to give a reply. The Gao shrine is located on the land in dispute between VALCO and Asogli Power, an independent power provider.Mr Lartey made the disclosure when the Gao Wulomo, Numo Tetteh Leno and his priestesses called on the management at the plant on Tuesday to express the displeasure of the community over why VALCO should build a concrete wall around the shrine without informing them. The traditionalists, clad in white had earlier poured libation at a distance from the shrine to invoke the gods. For sometime now, VALCO and Asogli Power, initiated by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State have been in a tussle over a piece land near VALCO.However, the Tema Development Corporation has stated that the layout of Tema showed that the land belonged to VALCO.Source: GNA
