A 42-year-old driver of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mr Samuel Kwaku Konadu died tragically on the spot, when the vehicle containing the company’s newspapers destined for Kumasi collided head-on with a Yutong passenger bus near Anyinam in the Eastern Region.His body has been deposited at the Kyebi Government Hospital.The tragic accident which occurred at about 2 a. m. Saturday (Sept 22), involved four vehicles, the company’s delivery van with registration number GN 8763-12, the Yutong bus with registration number GC 511 Z, an articulated cargo truck number GR 2457 C and a mini bus with number AW 3552-12.The only other passenger (a road clerk) on board the Graphic vehicle Mr Lentini Achindiba, 32 sustained injuries and is being treated at the St Joseph Hospital, at Effiduasi, near Koforidua.Also injured was the driver of the Yutong bus, Baba whose condition is said to be very critical and currently on admission at the Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw.According to the police, an unspecified number of passengers in the Yotung bus and the mini buses were also injured but left for undisclosed health facilities within the area.According to an eye witness, Mr Muhammed Atiku, driver of the cargo truck which was in front of the Graphic vehicle, had to swerve the on-coming Yutong which was speeding to overtake a number of vehicles from the other direction and crossed to his lane.He said in the process, his truck fell sideways into the bush and the Graphic van behind him crashed into the Yutong bus while the mini bus also went into the bush.At the time of leaving the scene, policemen from Anyinam under the leadership of Inspector Sylvester Tawia were trying desperately to clear the accident scene.
