A Sekondi district magistrates' court on Tuesday granted 27 persons from Teleku-Bokazu and Anwiah, GH¢10,000 (100 million cedis) bail each with one surety.They are to re-appear before the court on October 29 2007.
Their release followed an intervention by Mr. Freddie Blay, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for the Ellembelle constituency on Tuesday.It would be recalled that the court, presided over by Mr Vincent Tsatsu Azumah, remanded the suspects in police custody to re-appear before the court on October 11.The suspect's, including two women were arrested and remanded into Police custody, for their alleged involvement in rioting, stealing two AK 47 assault riffles and beating two Policemen into unconsciousness at Teleku-Bokazo near Nkroful in the Western Region.The youth were rioting against the prospecting and mining by a mining company, Adamus Gold Resources, and intercepted some of their machinery.The crew sensing danger, called for assistance and when some Policemen arrived at the scene, a misunderstanding broke out between them and the community and in the process, one youth was shot in the leg, infuriating the youth to attack the Policemen with stones.Source: GNA
