Six people died on the spot when a Yeji-Kumasi bound 207 Mercedes Benz crushed into a stationed timber truck loaded with five logs at Bosomkyekye near Mampong in the Ashanti region.Three persons in critical condition, including the driver of the Mercedes Benz with registration ER 213 T identified only as Razak have been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.The deceased in the accident, which occurred on the Mampong-Ejura road, last night include an 8-month old boy and four females.Two of them have been identified as Amma Nkrumah, 40 and 35-year old Afua Asana.The driver of the timber truck, with registration UW 719 C is said to have abandoned the truck on the edge of the road after it developed fault.He also failed to erect warning signs to warn other road users of the danger the situation posed.Mampong Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit Commader, DSP Benjamin Gyasi tells Nhyira Fm the accident could have been avoided if the two drivers followed traffic regulations.According to DSP Gyasi, police are still investigating circumstances under which the Mercedes Benz veered-off the road to crush into the stationed truck. This is after statements have been taken from witnesses.The Mampong police are collaborating with the owner to remove the truck loaded with five logs from the accident sceneMeanwhile, the mutilated bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital Morgue while police search for driver of the timber truck.
