Ghana has re-affirmed its commitment to international laws and full cooperation with Cote d’Ivoire to ensure lasting peace in that country.A statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed concern about what it says are repeated allegations by Ivorian authorities of incursions by pro-Gbagbo militias living in Ghana and has called for joint investigations into the incidents. The latest incident last Friday led to the closure of the Ivory Coast side of the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire border at Elubo in the Western Region. The two countries have been holding high level talks to address the situation.Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Chris Kpodo, told Joy News the allegations were denting Ghana’s reputation and that government expected the outcome of the investigations to allay any suspicions. He was emphatic that Ghana would not entertain persons who would want to use the country to cause confusion anywhere, adding that Ghana wants to share whatever information the Ivorian authorities have that indicates that the attackers came from Ghana.“We have said it over and over that we will not encourage anybody within our territory – a refugees or otherwise – to engage in any activity to destabilize a neighboring country. We are calling for a joint investigation into this reported incursion so that we will be in a better position to deal with it.”
