About 50 residential houses and five church manses were submerged in the Tano River at Tanodumasi in the Atwima-Mponua District, when the river burst its banks following a torrential rainfall in the early part of the week.The displaced victims are currently putting up with friends and relatives. Although there were no fatalities, property worth millions of cedis were destroyed.The Tano River, which stretches across the town and two other small farming communities, Anansu and Kaporo Number Two, also destroyed farmlands and foodstuffs worth millions of cedis in the two villages.Briefing the Ghana News Agency when Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area paid a visit to the flood victims, Nana Akowuah, Krotinhene of Tanodumasi mentioned the submerged churches as; the Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Pentecost, Anglican and the Grace Bible churches.He said personal effects, livestock, cocoa farms and foodstuffs worth millions of cedis had been destroyed and appealed to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the District Assembly as well as philanthropists for relief aid.Mr Kwame Asiamah who assured victims of government's support, called on the traditional rulers to release land to enable the victims put up new buildings.He later visited Anansu and Kaporo to assess the extent of damage.Source: GNA
