Some residents of Dansoman in Accra, say they are losing confidence in the ability of the police to protect them from armed attacks.
This follows a series of armed robbery attacks in the area, with the Chairman of Parliament’s Accounts Committee,Albert Kan Dapaah being the latest victim.
The Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere West, told Joy News the attack was perpetrated, Tuesday night.
His car was vandalized after a series of gun shots. He would not give any further details as to whether his belongings were stolen, except to say he and is family are safe.
Residents say the MP’s attack is one of many suffered lately.
At least three households were attacked by gun and machete-wielding robbers this week alone at Dansoman, Joy News has learnt.
There have also been reports of car snatching and petty burglary.
In all these attacks, the residents told Joy News’ Francis Abban, the police have not shown enough commitment to protecting them.
Two of the victims said police investigators who were called to one of the crime scenes asked the victims to take photographs of the scene themselves and hand them over to the police for investigations, because they lack the resource to do that.
They said walking around the neighbourhood has become very risky these days.
“It is not safe at all, no streets light," another lamented.
The Dansoman police have declined comment on the matter.
