Authorities at the Kumasi Airport say the facility will soon resume operations after a temporary shutdown Saturday. The airport was closed down after routine checks revealed gaping potholes on the runway. A management official who pleaded anonymity told Joy News the closure was a necessary precautionary measure. “I believe that it won’t be long [before the place will be opened for business]. The difficulty we might face is that it [the closure] is happening over the weekend…but we are running around the clock to make sure it is fixed as soon as practicable.” For now though some domestic airlines have made alternate arrangements to transport passengers to Kumasi. Travelers are first flown to Sunyani and then bused to Kumasi, an hour’s drive away.
