Some domestic airline operators are refunding airfares of their Kumasi-bound passengers, following a shutdown of the airport Saturday.
The Kumasi airport was closed down after checks revealed there were potholes on the runway.
Some airlines have made alternate arrangements to transport passengers to Kumasi. Travelers using Antrak Air are first flown to Sunyani and then bused to Kumasi.
But Managing Director of Starbow, Brock Freisen told Joy News they are unable to do same given the size of their aircraft, hence the refund.
“We are hopeful that the damage [on the runway] can be repaired quickly…” he added.
Meanwhile, authorities at the Kumasi Airport say the facility will soon resume operations.
A management source who pleaded anonymity told Joy News the closure was a necessary precautionary measure.
