Kumasi Airport authorities are assuring the airport will soon resume operations. It was closed temporarily over the weekend after routine checks revealed gaping potholes on the runway.A management official who pleaded anonymity told Joy News the closure was a necessary precautionary measure.“On regular basis we need to go every day every morning we need to go round check the state of the run ways before we open it. So if we feel there is something that will affect the safety of the operations we need to watch it,” A management official at the Kumasi Airport said.“I believe that it will not be long,” for the airport to be opened, he stated, adding “we are working around the clock to make sure it is safe as soon as practicable” he added. For now though some domestic airlines have made alternate arrangements to convey passengers to Kumasi. Travelers are first flown to Sunyani and then transported by road to Kumasi. The journey could last for at least one hour.
