A husband and father of a three-month-old baby is dead after armed men gunned him down Monday at Asylum Down in Accra.
According to an eyewitness, two men arrived on the scene on a motorbike and begun arguing with Promise Atsu Dayi, a 41-year-old mobile money vendor who was conducting business in the area.
The suspects proceeded to leave, then came back to the scene where they shot Dayi in the chest, said the witness. The suspects waited for the man to die before they fled the location, he said.
The victim’s brother, whose name has been withheld, told Joy News that Dayi was a kind, hard-working man, who everyone loved.
Family and friends of Dayi arrived at the scene of the shooting Tuesday morning.
“Last time I saw him was on Sunday,” the victim’s brother said. “On my way home, I got the call that my brother had been shot. I said wow, how?”
When he arrived at the hospital where his brother was transported, he was told his brother was dead.
This morning, family and friends of the victim gathered at the scene of the crime where they solemnly sang and prayed for the victim’s family.
Authorities have cordoned off the crime scene. One witness said one of the suspects wore dreadlocks while the other had a fair complexion. He says he has agreed to assist police in their investigations.
