A directive from the National Commission for Civic Education for local assemblies to compile a list of first time voters in all Senior High Schools in the country is causing some controversy. The commission says the list should help in civic education of the student voters, but the Center for Democratic Development says the motive is suspicious.According to the ranking of the NCCE 2012 survey, on the 14 issues that are of concern to the Ghanaian, Health is the second most important issue voters would want politicians to address. Issues concerning health raised in the survey were, construction of more hospitals, free healthcare delivery, training of health personnel, public health education, just to mention a few. In a discussion on how the political parties would address the issues when voted into power, they all indicated they would be tackling health issues with intensive education on environmental sanitation to help eliminate both communicable and non-communicable diseases in the country.The CPP and the NPP outlined their manifesto on healthcare delivery. The NDC also Promises expanding health facilities across the regions and districts of the country expanding existing nursing and midwifery schools and a onetime premium with the NHISWhile the others concentrate on making the NHIS better and a major source of delivering healthcare to the people of Ghana, the PPP thinks otherwise and seeks a different way of eradicating preventable disease with research as key.The GCPP on the other hand says it would concentrate on finding the funding to support health care delivery in the country. As the health of a country is the wealth of the country, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, former Director General of the Ghana Health Service urged all to place health issues way above politics and place it at the level of a commission that would provide consistency in the delivery of healthcare.For now the choice still lies with the voters.
