The Nkawie circuit court, presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah, has sentenced Stephen Sefa, a farmer at Ahwerewa, to twelve months' imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a sheep.
Sefa pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector H.A Agyare, told the court that, of late unknown people in the Ahwerewa area had been stealing sheep and goats.
According to the police, some members in the community were asked to mount surveillance to arrest the perpetrators.
The Prosecutor said on October 18 this year at about 0300 hours, a witness in the case overheard an unusual bleating and came out only to find Sefa carrying a big sheep on his shoulders.
The prosecutor said sensing danger, the accused threw off the animal and took to his heels but he was apprehended after a hot chase.
Chief Inspector Agyare said when he was sent back to the scene of the theft, there was another sheep tied up ready to be taken away.
He was handed over to the police and charged with the offence.
