Benjamin Bosompem, a barber was on Monday
jailed three years by a circuit court at Cape Coast for stealing a cover cloth valued at GH¢40.00.
He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court, presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu-Badu, that Bosompem who lived at Assin-Nkran was ejected from his house and he went to put up with a friend at Assin-Ankwaso.
Inspector Amonoo said on October 12 this year, Bosompem took advantage of the absence of other tenants in the house and stole a cover cloth from a drying-line.
The court heard that when the owner of the cloth returned later and could not find the cloth, he conducted his own investigations and was told that Bosompem was seen carrying a plastic bucket containing something.
The owner of the missing cloth confronted Bosompem but he initially denied the theft. However, he later admitted stealing the cloth during police interrogation and led investigators to retrieve the cloth from a friend at Nyakumasi-Ahenkro.
In a related development, two unemployed men Ishawu Safiano and Ekow Egyir were remanded in prison custody by the same court for allegedly robbing one Mr Kwabena Badu of GH¢40.00 at knife point in a public toilet.
Their pleas were not taken and they would reappear on Friday, November 16.
