Interior Ministry rules out Monday January 7 as a public holiday Government says Monday January 7, 2013 is not a public holiday. The day has been set aside for the swearing in ceremony of president elect John Mahama. There were speculations the day would be declared a public holiday as a result of the ceremony. But Deputy Minister of Interior, Kobby Acheampong told Joy News the day will not be declared as a holiday and urged members of the public to go about their normal duties. He however added that government is looking at a Legislative Instrument that will make January 7 a public holiday every four years in the future. Meanwhile, the police MTTU has indicated that some roads leading to the venue for the inauguration ceremony, the Independence Square, will be closed to motorists and the general public. Over 15 heads of state from across the world are expected to grace the occasion. Some of the heads include African Union Chairman and President of Benin, Yayi Boni, President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, President Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso, President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Others include, President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, President Nbiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger, President Michael Sata of Zambia, President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo and President Mohamed Abdel-aziz of Sahrawi Republic.
