Leicester City’s Ghana defender Daniel Amartey has paid tribute to club chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha after he died in a helicopter crash on Saturday.
Srivaddhanaprabha was among five people killed when a helicopter crashed into the parking lot of the King Power Stadium following the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with West Ham United in a Premier League match on Saturday evening.
In a statement, Leicester said the club's thoughts were with "the Srivaddhanaprabha family and the families of all those on-board at this time of unspeakable loss".
The club described Mr Vichai as "a man of kindness, of generosity and a man whose life was defined by the love he devoted to his family and those he so successfully led".
And Amartey, who has undergone surgery after suffering an ankle injury in the dying moments of the match against the Hammers, took to social media to pay his own tribute to the Thai billionaire.
“Came out of a successful surgery, but devastating news about the demise of our chairman,” Amartey posted on his Twitter account.
“A generous man, to whom @LCFC owes everything. I’m sure, you’re in a much better place. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the families of the victims affected by this tragedy.”
Srivaddhanaprabha bought Leicester in 2010 for £39m, cleared their debts and saw the club win promotion to the top flight four years later.
The Foxes then beat odds of 5000-1 to claim the Premier League title in 2015-16 in one of the greatest sporting stories of all time. Amartey contributed to the title success.
