The Bible Society of Ghana is gearing up for its annual Bible Week Celebration in the first week of February 2013.As has been the norm over the years, the week-long celebration will bring together churches across the country to reflect on the goodness and power of the bible and how it has directly impacted the lives of believers.The theme for this year’s celebration is “The Bible and national cohesion.”General Secretary of the Society, Erasmus Odonkor at a seminar said the theme could not have come at a better time given how polarized the country has become after the elections.The country is divided along the centre, he stressed and called on all Christians and peace loving Ghanaians to join hands in prayers in order to build a cohesive society.According to him, the theme was chosen in April last year, at a time when nobody had anticipated that the country was going to be this divided and polarized.The week-long celebration, he noted is not only to talk about the “relevance of the bible in the day-to-day lives of the people but to “celebrate the week in a way that will affect the community we live in.”“It will also provide an opportunity to draw attention to centrality of the word of God in the lives of people and church of God,” Erasmus Odonkor said. The seminar brought together representatives from the different churches across the regions as well media men to brainstorm on the upcoming celebration.Mr Nathaniel Nunoo, Manager in charge of Church Relations for the Bible Society of Ghana took participants through activities planned for the week long celebration.According to him, the Bible week has been celebrated in Ghana since 1968, adding this year’s celebration will even be more eventful.As part of the celebration, the Society has set aside a day for a Bible Reading Marathon in order for Christians in all churches to read the bible for as many hours as they choose.That he said is to ensure the Bible becomes relevant in the lives of Christians.He said the Society has produced 30,000 copies of tracts in different languages to be distributed for use by the local churches.The tracts have been produced on the theme for the year.
