The The former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been banned for life from all football-related activities.

He has also been fined 500,000 Swiss Francs for various breaches of FIFA’s ethics as well as conflict of interest.

The ruling contained in a statement issued by FIFA, Tuesday, follows an undercover sting investigation by Ghana’s investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The investigation titled Number 12 captured several grim corrupt activities by referees, and some football administrators.

Ghana’s FA president Nyantakyi was captured in a video transacting business with the supposed investor and prospective sponsor of the Ghana premier league.

Unknown to him, he was transacting the business with the ace investigative journalist whom he had demanded monies in excess of $11  million ostensibly to settle some of Ghana’s top politicians including the president, his vice and some ministers of state.

The president and his vice, as well as the ministers involved, have all denied the claims made against them.

He was also seeking part payment of what would be a sponsorship package in the event the businessman seals the sponsorship deal. In the end, he was given some cash,  the total amount of which has been in contention.

Shortly after the investigation was made public in June 2018, FIFA suspended Kwesi Nyantakyi for 90 days with extra 45 days pending further investigation into the matter.

Anas and his Tigereye PI investigative team sent a petition to FIFA outlining the various breaches by the once powerful Football Association President in Ghana.

It appears the world football governing have perused the petition, done with its investigation and the ruling has been damning.

Kwesi Nyantakyi will have no place in any football-related activity in the world.

”The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Nyantakyi guilty of having violated Article 19 of (Conflict of Interest) Art 21 Bribery and Corruption,  and Article 22 Commission of the FIFA Code of Ethics  2012 edition.”

“As a consequence, Mr Nyantakyi has been banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both the national and international level. Additionally, a fine in the amount of CHF 500,000 has been imposed on Mr Nyantaki,” the statement said.

The amount if converted into cedis is over 2 million.

The ban and fine come at a time when Ghana’s courts have been inundated with several litigations for and against Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Mr Nyantakyi has gone to court accusing Anas of breaching his privacy.  Anas on his part has also sued Kennedy Agyepong, whose name was mentioned by Nyantakyi in the video for defamation.

With Tuesday’s ruling by FIFA, it is not clear what the fate of Nyantakyi’s case against Anas will be in court.
